Smart City Dressing produces an enterprising festive display for Leicester
Revellers in Leicester enjoyed a super-sized Christmas celebration last year thanks to the addition of a striking advent calendar displayed in Charles Street, produced and installed by Smart City Dressing (SCD).
The gigantic calendar, commissioned by Leicester City Council, raised funds for the Lord Mayor's Appeal for the Special Olympics Leicester 2009 and measured 24 metres by 12 metres. It was produced in PVC to ensure durability and consisted of a base layer with 24 images representing the various sponsors of the City Council, and a top layer constructed of 24 windows laid over the top.

Smart City Dressing designed a bespoke mechanism to make the 'reveal' work smoothly every time. Jeremy Rucker SCD Director says "This project is an excellent example of what SCD can achieve. A client can come to us with a concept, or even just a vague outline of an idea and we'll make it happen."

The Lady Mayoressopened the banner to rounds of applause, as the first window serenely dropped to the floor with the lighting coming on in perfect synchronisation. The festive celebrations culminated in a grand prize draw opened by the Special Olympians on the 24thDecember at 12pm.
Following the tremendous success of this project, SCD are looking to take it one step further and are currently seeking a host for the World’s Largest Advent Calendar, which would be implemented for Christmas 2009!
If you think there might be an interest on your City’s part to be involved, please get in touch and we would be happy to discuss the possibility further
